First Powerful Steps
Preparing to be the intuitive medium healer is about using common sense communication and accurate awareness.
The next step is to take charge of all situations involving the lost, confused or fearful people in spirit.
Learn how to determine if there is a spirit in need around you and how to determine if that spirit has crossed over into the Light or has been earthbound.
Become a medium with a Code of Ethics for Nonphysical Beings of All Types. Each deceased human or non-human being must always be considered as a client first and foremost. Each deceased person is still an alive being.
I really do have a code of ethics and it is the following –
- Always be respectful.
- Dead people are still real people too.
- Dead people are just as alive as you are.
- Never, never, never chase a spirit person away.
- Each nonphysical being must be considered a client who needs or wants something.
In this interview I did with Lisa Bonince, Shift Network, I share my experience as a Medium and what it takes to be one.

Lisa: Welcome to this session of the Beyond the Veil Summit, where we explore the nature of the veil between the worlds. I’m Lisa Bonnice, your host. My guest for this session is Tina Zion.
Our topic today is “How to Become a Medium and What Does it Take to be One.”
Tina Zion is a fourth-generation intuitive medium and is internationally viewed as an expert in medical intuition and mediumship. She’s a first-place gold award winning author and teaches internationally, including here on The Shift Network. She’s here with us today.
Tina, thank you so much for joining us. Welcome.
Tina: Oh, bless your heart. Thank you for having me and I love meeting with you. I just love it.
Lisa: Yeah, we always have the greatest conversations so I’m really looking forward to what comes up today. This will be good.
Tina: We have great conversations. We do.
Lisa: We do. Well, let’s start out with, this is the beyond the veil topic, so let’s start with a definition. In your view, what is the veil?
Tina: Oh, well, in my humble opinion, I’ve noticed that the veil is so different, whatever one calls the veil is so different for each person. As I examined that and I examined myself, what I noticed is the veil tends to be thicker, it tends to be thinner, it tends to be different for each person. What my divine and sacred guides have said too, the veil tends to be whatever distance, we, each person as an individual, feels from the spirit realm. It’s very much a part of, you know, if we’re afraid of it, then the veil will be possibly thicker. Or if we are eager to work at that level, I really haven’t noticed any veil. I love talking about it and I think it’s maybe a controversial topic even to bring it up this way. But it seems like it’s just whatever we think, each individual thinks it is.
Lisa: That makes a lot of sense. I really like the way that you say that it’s an individual thing. Because as you mentioned, sometimes when life is tough, you really feel like — I personally will feel like I’m just not tapped into source at all. It feels like, sort of wading through tar to find our way back to the thin aspects of the veil. Let’s talk about that a bit, if you don’t mind. Because we all get stuck in the quagmire, how can we move closer to a thinness of the veil?
Tina: First of all, I’ve noticed that many people who are afraid of it, tend to look away, they tend to try not to think about spirit people, they try not to go there and so they in fact, maybe create that sicker veil. I find that there’s a lot of fear with people about what’s going on in the spirit realm. What’s going on in, I call it the really the entire nonphysical world, the nonphysical realms. Here’s one thing I would tell people that might help everybody. If you notice that each of us has a physical body as we sit here and talk together and listen to our talk, that 50% — and here’s what I keep coming up with, there’s only 50% of our experience here is on the physical level. But you know what? The aliveness in us is actually the other 50% that — our aliveness is our soul energy. If everyone could start thinking of themselves as only, okay I’m really 50% in the physical body or I’m 50% physical and have a physical body and the other 50%, I’m already spirit. I hope that would help to normalize this for people that are connecting with the spirit realm. There’s really nothing to fear because we’re already a spirit. I love this opportunity to even say this to people. Because they keep telling me this is a really new thought to people.
Tina: No, I would say that that would be the most common thing that everyone thinks a medium is. That the medium is an interpreter. They’re listening to the deceased and then they tell their living client, what the deceased is saying, what the deceased looks like or is dressed like and things like that. When, what I noticed over the years as a medical intuitive, I notice that the deceased is actually very, very, very alive. There’s really nothing to fear. I noticed that I’m having different kinds of interactions with the deceased. Actually, the deceased are sometimes, sometimes one of the eight causes of someone’s illness or somebody’s struggles. So if a more negative or I say confused or angry, or whatever, deceased person might be hanging around, they actually might be one of eight causes of someone’s struggling in their life.
Lisa: Yeah, it can be, definitely. I know that in your work you are both a medical intuitive and a medium. Since this specific summit is more about mediumship, etc. let’s talk about that. The primary role, in your view of a medium, is to be the interpreter between the deceased and the living, is that accurate?
Lisa: Yeah, you and I have talked about this in the past about that. I’ve heard from many different mediums that, for example, if somebody is struggling with addiction, oftentimes, it’s because there’s a deceased being, person, whatever you want to call them, you know, sort of hanging around, living vicariously through the addiction. Is that your experience?
Tina: Yes, that’s very much my experience in that, an addiction, that is really a good example of it too. Sometimes the person, that the person in spirit, depends on what they were troubled with, how they died, how they lived, their emotions, and they will tend to find living people, they’re just attracted sometimes to living people who already might be in your example, already might be drinkers, you know. And so, I have, I always kid around, I’ve got so many stories about bars, that people would probably never go into bars again, if they heard all those stories, I have about picking up deceased people who are troubled, and who are possibly alcoholics and possibly died that way. Then that spirit person actually connected with the living person who visited a bar. Then they’ve got that spirit person, you know, kind of hanging around them and affecting them.
Lisa: Yeah, I’m really glad that the conversation is going in this direction, because I know that this is a question that many people have. Do I have, you know, somebody stuck in my field? Are there negative entities in my house? Let’s talk about that, if you don’t mind. Because again, this is a big question. Some people they don’t believe in it, there’s no such thing. There’s only love and light, yada, yada. Then others are like, I know, there’s more to it than that. What’s your view?
Tina: Oh, my goodness, the nonphysical realm is just as alive as the physical realm. I actually think that and have experienced that it’s much more complicated than the physical world. There are, you know, deceased humans and some people think that when we leave our physical body that we automatically go into the light. That’s not my experience. I have so much validation from people who after I work with them, and help the deceased person to detach and I’ve got a whole process to help a deceased person. The living person has a renewed life. I have so much validation over the years that I know not everyone crosses over into the light. Usually, think about this, usually, it’s thought that the deceased person’s focused thought, or very extreme emotion, tends to be what keeps a spirit person here on the earth plane in some way. Those two things. But really focused, almost like an obsessive thought about something, their property or their house or something like that. That’s one of the things. But then if they had a tremendous emotion about something that that will tend to keep people here. This is why there’s so many ghost busting shows on TV. The thing is, on TV, they tend to say, Oh, this is a demon and this is that. I’m watching TV, and I just see a house where a little old deceased woman is very upset that somebody is in her house now. It’s not all demons and evil stuff, either. It’s usually a very possessive, deceased person hanging around.
Lisa: Okay, thank you for that clarification. Obviously, there’s so much more to this that we can go into, but that’s a whole other conversation. We were talking about addictions and about how there are causes for illness. Let’s talk about how — can a medium also become a healer? Can you help people to, fix what ails them?
Tina: For so many years, I didn’t even, it was so natural to do medical intuition with people and for people, and it was often a deceased person was involved. It didn’t occur to me that I was actually taking steps to actually bring closure to the deceased person or assist the deceased person in some way. Then, the icing on the cake, as I call it, is to watch this beautiful transformation of a deceased person being taken to the light to help them in this crossing over, as we call it, experience. It took me, I don’t even know how long it took me to realize, wait a minute I think I’m healing the deceased too. That’s really how it started.
Lisa: Interesting, you know, I wanted to ask you, how did it start for you? Because, again, many people are wondering, do I have what it takes to be a medium? Am I a medium or am I crazy, etc.? When you first began down this path, how old were you? When did you recognize that that’s what was going on?
Tina: Oh, well, I wasn’t healing them back then. But I was, as a little child, I think I was probably five years old or six years old, that I realized that I was seeing a deceased farmer behind the barn. I could tell he wasn’t in the living because I can kind of see through him and he was out there at night. Even when I was a little bit younger than that we lived in a house and this spirit man tended to go inside of me and I was a little tiny kid and I felt like uh, like that, like blowing up inside. It took me many years to understand, wait a minute, that was the deceased person just going in and out of this little kid’s body. I have all kinds of stories like that, that this is a very, very, very real. It’s very real.
Lisa: Yeah, I want to go back to what you were just talking about, about how you know, your body felt like it was filling up. As a child, you have no frame of reference, did you tell the adults? Did you just live that way until you realized that there was something that you could do about that? How did you approach that?
Tina: That’s a really good question. My entire family were very active spiritualists, and in the church. My father’s side, they were active spiritualists on my father’s side. On my mother’s side, my great grandmother, was a medium and read cards. It was very, very natural. At that time, when I was little when this particular human was kind of going in and out of me, I didn’t know what was going on, I was too little. I didn’t even know my family was aware of the spirit realm back then. It was just when I was older and got more involved in this professionally, I felt, wait a minute, that was a deceased person coming in and out of me for, why? I don’t know what he was getting out of it. I would just, oh, this is terrible and then I would push him out. I didn’t. I don’t know, I didn’t know what it was at that time he was getting out of it. I would just, oh, this is terrible and then I would push him out. I didn’t. I don’t know, I didn’t know what it was at that time.
Lisa: Interesting. Okay, so you don’t know why he was doing this. I mean, I guess we can assume he just wanted to feel the physical again. But for you it felt unpleasant and you were able to just push him out by thinking that? What did you have to do?
Tina: I just slotted, then I kind of like pushed, pushed him out. I had a push from inside of me, I pushed him out. This will bring up, that I want to bring up with people is, thank goodness, this is true, but the spirit realm will actually do what we tell them to do. We have to mean it when we say it and thank goodness, they will do it. If you say don’t ever get back inside of my physical body, you know, that spirit person will not do it. You have to mean it when you say it, though.
Lisa: Yeah, I think that’s one of the most important things I’ve ever learned from you is the command. Because so many of us are so polite, like, oh, please help me with this, or helped me to blah, blah, blah, or whatever. We’re sort of asking politely for a favor. That doesn’t always work. You really do need to be solid with your words, so that they have no doubt of your meaning. Can you talk a bit about that?
Tina: It’s very, very important for us to be in charge of what’s going on. Because if you think about it, for people who leave their body at the time of death, and actually go into the light, they’re in a place where that makes sense to them. They’re in a place where they have that awareness and they can do that. The people that stay here, the spirit people that stay here on Earth, tend to be troubled in some way. They’re either still feeling they’re terrible illness, or they’re still feeling, in your example, the addiction. They’re troubled in some way and we have to be in charge of our own body, our own house. For example, some of my family members work at a hospital. When they come over and then they leave, they always leave troubled, deceased people at my house. They don’t mean to and they’re not aware of it, I should tell them. But all that means is, if we do have a deceased person in our environment, either needs something or they want something. A lot of times they need help, is how I came to this, and how I feel like I have become a healer and I teach this to people how to actually be in charge and to actually help them because they’re troubled in some way.
Lisa: That’s really interesting that people bring them to your house and they stay. ‘Tina can help us. Tina sees us.’ Is that what they’re doing, do you think?
Tina: Oh, I believe so. Because, think about this, why, you know, these family members go to other people’s houses, and they’re not doing that. But I think when we begin to be aware of the nonphysical realms, then we, I think we look different, we feel different. I’ve had people in spirit, that are all excited that I could see them. They get very excited that I can see them and they start really interacting. See, they just are just as alive as we are and some of them are very troubled, some of them still feel their illness, all kinds of things are going on? See, I think the nonphysical realm is much more complicated than the physical world.
Lisa: Now why is that? Why is it more complicated? Tina: Well, because there are deceased people, but they’re also other living beings. The first time I saw fairies, I was in a city and they had this beautiful fountain downtown and I stand there just loving this fountain and then I realized that — this was decades ago — I realized, oh wait, I’m seeing little fairies bouncing around on the top of the water. The the nonphysical realm has many more types of beings, many more diversity, a lot of diversity in what’s going on in the nonphysical. Lisa: Interesting, and I think this would probably be a good time to bring up this question that’s been stewing in my head. Again, you and I have worked together in the past, so I know your work. You also, when you’re teaching people to work with spirit guides, you make a distinction between guides that might be formerly living people, relatives, etc., and divine and sacred guides. Can you talk about the difference there?
Tina: Oh, thank you for bringing that up. Because I’m perplexed, well I can’t be that perplexed because I used to do it, as well, is a non-human being told me that they were a guide. I accepted that, thought that they were wonderful helpers and I worked with them for many, many, many years. Then I realized, now wait a minute, I noticed that some of these guides that I had, some of them were very, very good at what they did. Some of them were kind of not so good about the outcome. I realized there are different levels, just like here on Earth, you know, some physicians are fun, and some physicians are mediocre. It’s the same in the spirit realm and I love talking to people about this. I dismissed, this is going to make some people probably very upset, that I dismissed all of my guides and made room and put out there that I’m only willing to work with that highest level, that most advanced level of the nonphysical. I was told, at least in the English language, divine and sacred, and for some people may be holy, would, it narrows it down to the most advanced guides. When I started working only with the divine and sacred, I’m telling you Lisa, that my abilities just skyrocketed. Again, even less of a veil, if I had any veil at all then, there seems less of a veil, can’t even find a veil, actually. But it made all the difference. It made all the difference, because I work with divine and sacred guides who specialize in something. See, those three key words are very, very powerful to determine. You want a divine and sacred and a specialist. Kind of like a specialist here on Earth in whatever and it’s the same in the nonphysical world, there are specialists, also.
Lisa: Yeah, and what this is basically all boiling down to is being very precise with your meeting, as we were talking earlier about using commanding language, being precise in calling on divine and sacred, which has a very specific vibrational meaning to it. A specialist in this and I command this result. It is really all about being very specific, isn’t it?
Tina: Being very specific is key in our relationship in our ability to live and work with the spirit realm, the nonphysical realm. That’s very, very key, because our thoughts are more than just thoughts. People just think we have monkey mind and the thoughts are just coming and going. When in fact, that made all the difference in the world too, when I started using very precise individual words, in my thoughts and to the universe. Like in prayer, rather than saying, please help me, I break it down into exactly what I mean by that and that’s the thought that I put out there. Not just help me, but what do you really mean? That’s my best example of that anyway. What do you truly mean and use those words that you would want those things to come into your life now, or assist you in some way. Our words are very, very important. Then our emotions, either power those words up or they tend to weaken those words, depending on what our emotions are.
Lisa: Yeah, yeah, I’m recalling when I was a baby psychic, a long, long, long, long ago when I was first learning how to do this. I didn’t believe that I had any spirit guides because they didn’t seem to answer me. They never seemed to come when I called and so I would get to a point where I would say to the to the universe, anybody is anybody listening there? I need help. If anybody is willing to help me, come on in. I didn’t realize until years later, oh. I didn’t know who I was inviting in, but I’ve become very, I don’t say careful, because there’s a little fear in that word, but very select in the energy that I’m talking about. I guess what my question is, while I was saying, anybody, you know, being this drama queen, oh, help me help me. What could I have been calling in do you suppose?
Tina: Well, instead of using the word help, I would put that call out that I invite in now, only a divine and sacred guide who specializes in. And in your case, whatever you wanted help with, who specializes in my physical health. I’ve just made that up for a minute, who specializes in bringing abundance into my life. There’s no end, there’s no end to the divine and sacred and the specialist. There’s no end to it. In fact, really, what I teach is what makes all the difference in the world in my own life is a lot of times, really all that I’m teaching, because I chugged along with any old body that said they were a guide for a long, long time. Half the time they didn’t answer, like you’re saying, and when I worked with only the divine sacred, oh, my goodness, oh, my goodness.
Lisa: It does make a huge difference. Again, that is something I learned from you, so thank you for that. Talking about being new to this, I’m assuming that there will be people watching this that are new. What should people pay attention to, to notice what draws them to learn about mediumship?
Tina: Anyone who’s really watching this and listening to us right now, if you would, notice, really what pulled you to this whole summit? What drew you? Because people who are yearning to do mediumship work, if there’s a yearning to learn about this, and to hear about it, like you and I are talking right now, that you’re getting a signal from the universe that this is at least part of your path. Because there are so many deceased people who do not cross over, there’s so much need there. Half the time, they’re just trying to get their message across. They’re trying to, you know, for example, I had one man that kept coming to me when I was working with this living client. He would say, tell her there’s a box in my barn. I want her to find the box in my barn. I said to her, I said, there’s a man standing here, he looks like a farmer, and he wants you to look into the barn because there’s a box there for you. She did and there was. These stories, there’s so much validation in these stories. I don’t even know if I answered your question.
Lisa: I don’t know if you did or not, but it was a great story. Yeah, the question was basically, I guess, how would people recognize that, yes, they do have mediumship abilities and that’s why they’re being drawn to listening to conversations like this?
Tina: Well, it’s like when people tell me that they want to be an intuitive, a general intuitive or medical intuitive and some people will say I want to be a medium. If there is that yearning, that want, even if there’s thoughts about this, you’re getting signals that this is part of your life that could be. If you have any interest at all, that is the signal. For people that would watch a whole summit about Beyond the Veil, I want you to notice what is speaking to you about it. I would say this, I’d say to everyone, everybody is intuitive. I had I don’t have a special gift. Everybody’s just as intuitive as I am. I say that about being a medium also, everyone is a medium if they want to be. If they want to open up to the nonphysical realm, because I tell people there are deceased people everywhere. I have deceased people sometimes in my car, occasionally. There’s a deceased person that might be in the grocery store. They’re everywhere because we’re not separate from the nonphysical realms. We’re part of it right now. If you’re drawn to this, you’re getting a signal that this is at least part of your path, if not your full path.
Lisa: Yeah, there’s so many people that I know that have gone to see a medium, as a sitter, paying as a client, etc., and the medium will tell them, well, you know, you’re a medium as well. They’re always like, ah, go on. But then they eventually do take a class or to read a book and they start working to develop it, and voila, they end up being very talented mediums. It sounds like what you’re saying is that if you got the interest here, to the point where you’d even listen to a summit or you’d go to a medium, chances are good, you’ve got the ability, at least are open to it more than just your average Joe.
Tina: There’s a reason why you would listen to people in this summit. There are reasons why you turn on the television and you go to all the paranormal TV shows. There are reasons because you’re already — and I say this to all the listeners — you’re already aware that there is a phenomenal life going on in the nonphysical world. We can try to keep it separate or we can be part of it. Because like I always say we’re 50% physical and 50% nonphysical in a world that is physical and nonphysical, at the exact same time.
Lisa: Yeah, well, most of the mediums that I know of they deal with clients who have had somebody recently passed, and they are so deeply bereaved, all they really want to know is, is my loved one, okay, on the other side. The message is always yeah, it’s great over here, I’m fine. But it feels to me like, it’s the grief that prevents them from getting the messages themselves. Would you agree?
Tina: Oh, I agree completely, because so many people will come to me and someone will say, I lost my husband and I’m in such grief. When we have tremendous emotion, emotion will tend to get in the way. In this example, I’ll say to her, well, your husband is here, right now, he’s so eager to talk with you. He’s showing me that he’s cooking at the stove. He’s showing me that he’s stirring the pot. She just burst into tears. To me, it didn’t really make any sense. I wasn’t even sure if I was telling it right, because there’s a man cooking like crazy at a stove. She said he loved to do most of the cooking. See? When you go into this level of work, we get so much validation about how real this is. You will not have to wonder if the nonphysical world is real or not, you will get so much validation of how correct you are if you just literally share with your living client, what you’re perceiving. I saw this man at a stove, just cooking away, and it was tremendously meaningful to her.
Lisa: That’s a great story. Thank you for that one. Then, for those who are interested in in this kind of lifestyle, this method of earning a living, etc., whatever, what would be the primary steps to live and work as a medium?
Tina: Hmm, oh, wow. Takes classes because there’s more to mediumship than just what you and I are talking about. I do have a class coming up in through Shift Network in January, I’m so happy about, I’m thrilled to pieces about that. I also, in a couple of my books, I address this. I address, how to be aware of the nonphysical world, what to do about it, who you are noticing and what level of awareness they’re at. I have all that detail in my Advanced Medical intuition Book, but also, my latest book, Be Your Own Medical Intuitive.
Lisa: Right, right. I’m looking forward to that class and I know that part of that is going to be discussing, I want to use the right wording here because I don’t want to sound all scary and spooky, but there are aspects of the spirit world that aren’t so friendly, aren’t so nice. There are times when I know people that I know feel like they are under what they call psychic attack or somebody’s sending them bad juju, and it’s coming through, whatever they’re sending toward them. Can you address that? I know, we’re just going to be scratching the surface, but let’s talk about that.
Tina: Well, your example you just gave that, literally, when someone’s picking up that someone’s sending them bad juju, as you call it, that many times that is from another living person. Because our thoughts are things. Our thoughts, and our emotions have substance. If we feel hatred, about a person, that’s sending them a hatred vibration. If we love someone, that sends them a love vibration. Psychic attack is real and I teach people about how not to be a victim to that. I hope I help people to realize how powerful they are and they don’t have to receive or take that attack at all. Now there is also that level of stuff going on in the nonphysical realm. Sometimes people will say, I feel like I’ve got someone watching me and it feels very negative. Well, they, almost 100% have a very, I call them messed up deceased person following them around. And yes, they will affect our lives. We’ve got, in your example there, this can happen, living person to living person. It can also happen with deceased person to living people. It’s very common. That’s why I say it’s complicated, this nonphysical realm.
Lisa: Absolutely. Then, again, we can only scratch the surface here, but if somebody is feeling like somebody’s sending stuff at them, or that there’s somebody on the other side coming at them, protection? What sort of protection can we create to keep them out?
Tina: We can invite in divine and sacred guides who specialize in being warriors against the dark. See? Using those key words, divine and sacred guides, who specialize in protecting me 24/hours a day. See, there’s so many things that we can do. We also need to be in charge of our own energy fields, so I teach people about that, to power up their own energy field. The brighter we are the dark can’t stand the light. And so, it repels. It’s very repellent when we crank up our own energy fields. See, we even have a lot of power and control over the aliveness inside of us.
Lisa: That doesn’t sound all that complicated, it sounds very doable. Not scary at all. Just sort of matter of fact, right?
Tina: Well, one of the things I hope to do is to take the scare out of this because that’s what gets in our way. We could be yearning to be a medium, but oh we’re kind of jittery or afraid. No, half of us is nonphysical. You need to know what you’re doing and you need to learn some steps. If you’re listening to our talk, and the other talks, you’re getting a signal from the from the realms that this might be your path in your life.
Lisa: All right, you know what? I think that would be a good place to wrap this up. There’s no point in even going any further than that. I want to make sure that I mention your website, it’s tinazion.com. As you mentioned, you’ve got a Shift Network course coming up in January. Go ahead and tell us about your website and a little bit about your course.
Tina: Oh, my website has the Shift courses that I’ve done in the past, so you can look at them there, on my website. My books are on the website and also, my activities are on the website, so thank you for asking about that. My books, I have three books that are about medical intuition. Two of them are Become a Medical Intuitive and Advanced Medical Intuition. Those are about, really the focus is to be a practitioner for others about that. Then my third book is Be Your Own Medical Intuitive because we intuitively tend to not take care of ourselves very well. This book, Be Your Own Medical Intuitive, we’re both smiling, is for our own health and healing methods that we can do for ourselves all the time. All those, I’m happy to say, two of my medical intuitive books are our first-place gold winners, and Be Your Own Medical Intuitive has won second-place silver, yeah.
Lisa: Very good. Well, thank you so much for being with us today, Tina. I want to tell everybody I’ve got the copy of Tina’s latest book here. Is there anything that we’ve left out that you want to make sure that we talked about? Or do you feel like we’ve covered at all?
Tina: The only thing I would add to that is, if you keep finding yourself being pulled into shows or summits or something to hear about this, you can do more than just hear about it. You can actually become a healer and a medical intuitive and a medium, as well. Notice what pulls at your heart and go that direction.
Lisa: Perfect, thank you. Thank you for that. That’s perfectly stated. Thank you for being with us Tina, again, I so enjoy our time together. I appreciate your being with us today.
Tina: Bless your heart. Thank you so much. Thank you.
Lisa: Absolutely. I want to remind everyone that I’ve been talking with Tina Zion and I want to thank you for joining us. I hope you enjoyed this conversation in the Beyond The Veil Summit.
